Scope After Completing MBBS General Medicine

After completing MBBS in General Medicine, a student can have a lot of dynamic career scope. Some people think that if a person has completed MBBS then he will have to get job in a hospital or have to open a clinic and treat patients. But this is not true. A lot of career options are available after completing MBBS. The following are some few options:

Post-Graduation: After completing MBBS, students can go for post-graduation for becoming a specialist doctor. In India there are three main post-graduation courses: PG-Specialty, PG-Diploma and DNB. But students need to qualify AIPGMEE examination for taking admission in post-graduation in government medical college in India. Let us discuss these post-graduation courses in details:

PG-Specialty: In India, the post-graduation degree after MBBS is generally called as Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Master of Surgery (MS). The post-graduation courses can be done in various specialties like Internal Medicine, general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, ENT, orthopedics, etc. The duration of this course is 3 years.

PG-Diploma: Students can also go for post-graduation diploma course after passing out MBBS examination. This course provides diploma in Anesthesia, dermatology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, etc. The duration of this course is 2 years.

DNB: The full form of DNB is Diplomate of National Board. It is a diploma course equivalent to MD. DNB course is offered by National boards of Examination and is recognized by MCI. The duration of this course is 3 years.

Research: After completing MBBS, student can go for clinical research. Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIAMP), Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), St. John's Research institute are some renowned research institutes in India.

Hospital Management or Hospital Administration: Hospital management or hospital administration is a trending career option after completing MBBS. For hospital management and hospital administration students need to have Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Hospital Administration (MHA). This course helps the students to manage big specialty hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, etc. The duration of MBA or MHA is 2 years.

Combined Medical Services (CMS): In India every year CMS examination is conducted in the month of July or August for entering into the central government institutions like Railways, Central Health Services, Municipal Corporation, etc. as a Medical Officers. The examination is conducted according to the rules set by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in the Gazette of India.

Master in Medical Science and Technology: Students can also pursue Master in Medical Science and Technology (MMST). MMST is a 3 years program for interdisciplinary medical research and application of technology in medicine. MMST degree is offered by IIT, Kharagpur. In MMST a proper training is provided in areas like immuno-technology, early detection of cancer, biomedical instrumentation, telemedicine, medical statistics, biophysics, biomaterials and implants, molecular imaging and image analysis, medical imaging, etc.
