Romania is located in the southeastern part of Europe. It covers an area of 238,391 square kilometers. It is the seventh most populous country in the Europe and it has over 19 million populations. The capital of Romania is Bucharest, which is the sixth largest city in Europe. In 1944, the Soviet soldiers occupied Romania and till 1989 Romania was under the rule of communist leader Nicolae Ceausescu. In 1989 Nicolae Ceausescu was overthrown and in 1990 free election was held in Romania for the first time. In 1990 the political party National Salvation Front (FSN) won the election and Ion Iliescu was elected as the president of Romania. In 2004, Romania first joined North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and become a member of European Union (EU).
